Apple Picking & More: A Fall Tradition at the Orchard

If you’re looking for a fun, fall activity to do with your family and friends, apple picking should be at the top of your list!

Apple picking is a long standing fall tradition, and one that our family looks forward to each year. It’s not just all the varieties of apples at our fingertips, or the fact that we can pick our very own apples–it’s the whole experience. Our favorite apple farm here where we live in New York also has all kinds of pumpkins, gourds, hydrangeas, sunflower heads, and a plethora of fall offerings.  We sip apple cider while watching our kids play in the orchard and in an area that the apple farm made just for little ones. The crisp fall air not only smells utterly delightful, but makes us draw our sweaters in a little closer, and feel cozy in our boots. It really is the most perfect fall day.

My favorite apple is Honeycrisp, but it’s so fun to be able to try several different kinds at the same time, especially ones that you can readily find at your local grocery store. The different colors…I love them all!

Walking in this orchard makes me feel like a part of Anne of Green Gables, can you feel it?

Many times apple farms will have more than apples, and I love that ours also has a variety of pumpkins, gourds, and flowers. Aren’t they beautiful?  I talked about in my Fall Home Tour post how I use a lot of natural decorations in home, and this is where I get them most of the time.

I fell in love with a pile of sunflower heads and buckets of stunning (and huge) hydrangeas, and a bunch of them made their way into my cart.  I actually really wanted the bucket too, and asked if I could buy it!

Orange pumpkins are always a favorite, and they’re the ones my kids love the best.  They’re perfect for carving, and making toasted pumpkin seeds! I also love Heirloom Pumpkins, and I brought home the most gorgeous blue gray pumpkins…I adore them.
