Simple Farmhouse Summer Home Tour

It’s summer at Old Salt Farm! Take a peek inside for our farmhouse summer home tour. It’s all about red, white and blue…

This summer, even more than other summers, it was really about the basics when it came decorating. I don’t know if it was the quarantine, or just my overall tendency lately to make things even more simple. But regardless, it all came down to the red, white, and blue. I used a lot of flags in different sizes as accents, and it’s always my favorite.

I love love patriotic decor. The colors, the symbolism, all of it. And when you don’t have a lot of time, but want to add a touch of Americana to your home, flags are the easiest way to do that. I tucked them in my pitchers of flowers, in baskets, in my sugar mold on the table, and even on the wall!

The huge flag on the wall is a DIY project from a couple of years ago, and one of my absolute favorites. It’s 4 feet by 3 feet, so it’s really a presence in the room.

This pitcher of white flowers is one of my favorites in the kitchen, and it came to life with a few flags tucked inside.

A market tote basket stays on this bench in mudroom, mostly because I love the way it looks, and it’s so fun to decorate throughout the year. Sometimes flowers, sometimes pillows, but this time it’s flags!

Also in the mudroom I added my favorite red gingham pillow, plus a flag pillow that’s the perfect simple addition.

I’ve had this wooden sugar mold for a long time, but this is the first time I filled it with flags. And I adore it.

Usually I make it to other rooms in the house, but it just didn’t get done this year. And I’m okay with that. With my kids doing school from home, and my husband working from home, I was busier than I had been since my kids were super tiny…and honestly, I think maybe even more so. But what I love about simple decor is that it doesn’t take a lot to make a difference.

It’s also why I decided to have such a neutral space–the walls and furniture specifically. Each season and holiday I’m able to weave in simple decor that transforms the space quickly and beautifully. I just love all of the flags, and how it made our home look and feel for the summer. I even carried it over to the front porch!
