Old Salt Farm Christmas Home Tour 2018

Oh, how I adore Christmastime.  It’s my favorite for so many reasons, but I especially love a cozy and festive home to enjoy the holidays with my family and friends. I always keep it simple—plenty of fresh greenery and pops of red. My decor is usually quite neutral during the year, but when it comes to Christmas I simply must have red! I’m also completely obsessed with red buffalo check, red gingham, and red grain stripe, and they’re my favorite Christmas pillows.  I’m excited to show you all my favorites, and give you a peek into our farmhouse for a Christmas home tour…welcome to Old Salt Farm!

We cut down our tree every year–it’s one of our most favorite traditions.  While we’re there, I also get all of my fresh wreaths and garland.  This year I bought enough wreaths for not only the inside, but also for all the front windows of our house. I’ve never hung windows on my windows before, although I’ve always wanted to.  I absolutely love it!  The garland goes on the banisters, and it makes the whole house smell amazing.

On the dining table I placed trees inside the cutest galvanized buckets, then placed them all in a huge black tray that I adore.  A red grain stripe table runner goes down the middle and adds the perfect touch. Mini boxwood hang on the back of our dining chairs tied with red gingham ribbon. I also hung them in each of our family room windows this year, and I’m in love!

I have a simple paper sack countdown hung on the chalkboard. I slip a piece of paper in each one with a Christmas activity on it. Just a little something simple for every day–things like making homemade hot chocolate, reading a special book, making paper snowflakes, etc.

I found a new favorite ribbon this year, in addition to my traditional red gingham, and I used it on all my greenery.  It’s red and cream stripe–just  so simple and classic, and it looks so wonderful with the greenery.

The stairway will always have my heart.  I just adore how the greenery makes it look just like Christmas.

The barn doors in the kitchen also got the fresh wreath treatment.  I added a new Christmas sign above the sink, plus a wreath and greenery on the island.  As always, our hot chocolate station on the counter next to the stove, along with a cute red kettle ready to go is one of our favorite things!

The family room is the coziest–it has the Christmas tree and fireplace.  The best part of the day is when we turn all the lights off except the tree lights, and then we snuggle up together to read Christmas books and watch Christmas movies.

I love to decorate our guest room…just a few small touches take it from every day to Christmas guest ready!

I can’t forget the exterior of the house…it’s the first year we hung wreaths on the windows!  It was definitely a learning experience. It took us a few tries to figure out the best way to hang them so they’d be secure. We finally figured it out, and it made it all worth it.

  1. So beautiful! I enjoy following you.
Where did you find the red striped stockings hanging on your fireplace?

    1. Hi Michelle! I’m sorry, I had forgotten to link those. I’ve added it now, but here’s the link: http://thevintagebucketcom.ipage.com/store/p36/Grain_Sack_Stocking.html

  2. Kierste,

A beautiful home and a lot of work into decorating. I love all your wreaths. I did put wreaths on the back of our stools and also the dining room table chairs this year. Used your idea from last year. Thank you for sharing your home tour. Happy holidays!

    1. Yay! I’m so glad you tried the wreaths on the backs of your chairs and stools! Did you love it? It’s one of my favorite things. Happy Holidays to you!! xoxo

    1. I hung them with a wide ribbon, then put them through the top sashes of our windows–then locked them. On the inside, I tied the ends of the ribbon into a knot, so they would be secure, and not slide out. It worked like a charm!

    1. Thank you so much, Georgia! Red is definitely my favorite color–I love being able to use it during the holidays! xoxo

  3. Loved your holiday scheme . Everything looks so festive.
I am inspired to also paint numbers on my stairs.
I am curious seeing many bloggers not have carpet on wooden stairs if you have a solution to keep them slip proof?
    Merry Christmas!!

    1. Hi, Michelle! I don’t know that I have an answer for you on how to make them slip proof. I have six kids, and none of us have had a problem ever slipping on the stairs. That said, we don’t really wear socks inside the house, ha! If I was worried about slipping, I’d probably add a carpet runner down the middle of the stairs. Hope that helps! Merry Christmas!! xoxo

  4. Hi What a gorgeous Christmas ! I just printed your bee-havior punch cards -Thank you.
