A Sneak Peek into my Farmhouse Kitchen
So…guess what?! Old Salt Farm is literally days away from being finished, and today you get a sneak peek into one of my most favorite spaces–the farmhouse kitchen.  There are still some things left to get done–lighting goes in at the beginning of the week, the appliances arrive on Wednesday, and the cabinetry and finish works aren’t quite done, but it’s mostly completed, and I couldn’t wait to show you!
I’m a farmhouse girl thorough and through, and it’s been so fun to think about how I want to my kitchen to not only look, but function. I have just started buying a few things to stock the kitchen,  and I decided to see how they look in the space.
To me, nothing says “farmhouse” more than classic white. Â I love white dishes because they’re crisp, clean, fresh, and so versatile. Â I can pair them with any color scheme, they work for any holiday, and I just love the way they look.
Thank you to Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart for sponsoring this post!  All of the opinions  about their adorable farmhouse products are completely mine.Â
I have needed new dishes for awhile now, and I found the perfect set by Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart, and not only were they just what I was looking for, but the cost was so reasonable. Â Just $35.88 for a complete set of 4 which includes dinner plates, small plates, bowls, and mugs–can you believe it? Â Because there are 8 in our family, I like to have a service of at least 12, and I was able to get that for just over $100.
Gingham is my favorite, and I love it for summer. Â I paired the red gingham napkins (actually, they’re dishtowels!!) Â with a piece of greenery from our yard, and these adorable chalkboard tags. Â I love them! Â Chalkboard is definitely a farmhouse staple, and I can use these cute tags for so many different things around the kitchen–everything from place cards to labeling baskets in the pantry to entertaining.
I just love this wire tray–it’s perfect for holding extra dishes and utensils, for serving, and for decor. Â It works anywhere in the kitchen and for entertaining as well.
I like having my wooden spoons on the counter–I use them often and want them to be accessible–and I turned this farmhouse lantern into the perfect wooden spoons holder.
My farmhouse kitchen sink is probably one of my favorite things ever, and I don’t think I’m actually going to mind doing the dishes! I found the cutest soap dispenser that’s actually for the bathroom, but it looks so cute in my kitchen.
Even though we haven’t moved in yet, and work still needs to be done, it was so fun to do a little decorating, and get a feel for what our farmhouse kitchen will look like. Â Stay tuned…I’ll be giving a full reveal and home tour when it’s all finished!

I love your braided plate chargers/placemats. I know you get a million questions like this, but I’m wondering where you got them. Love your kitchen by the way. Can’t wait for your home reveal! So happy for you and your beautiful family. (I raised 7…6 sons and 1 daughter. I relate so well to all the large family dynamics.)
Thank you so much, Kay! I got the placemats from Ikea—I purchased them online, but they have them in stores too, I believe. I love that you raised a large family as well–and what a lucky girl to have six brothers!!
Thank you! My daughter always thought she was pretty lucky. She is #6, so with 5 older brothers it was just normal to her to live a life dominated by testosterone…lol. She is a very nurturing, no drama tomboy who is married and raising her own cute little ones. I am in a different stage of life than you but still read a couple blogs for new recipes and inspiration. Yours is my favorite by far!!! Thank you for your upbeat and totally professional blog!
Wow! I love that she has five older brothers! She sounds amazing…and definitely lucky. :) Thank you SO much for your kind words, they mean a lot to me. So glad you’re here!! xoxo
I love the chalkboard tags! They’re so much fun to personalize, and they look really nice with the white plates. Very nicely done. Your home is lovely!
Thank you so much, Morgan!! And the chalkboard tags are one of my favorite things—love them!! :)
I love your style! Your kitchen is perfect in every way. Looks like something out of a magazine for sure! Can’t wait to see what you do for lighting.
Oh my goodness, thank you, Jen!! xoxo
I can’t wait to see the sign details! I love love your kitchen!
Thank you so much, Wynter! I will definitely post about the sign after we move..stay tuned! xoxo
So happy for you and your family! Your kitchen is just beautiful and welcoming? Can’t wait to see more of your new home. I am in agreement with Kay, you are my favorite too!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I so appreciate your kind words…thank you so much for reading!! xoxo
You know what I love most of all, I love that you did this shoot without the appliances. Sometimes I feel there is intense pressure to only publish or shoot photos when it’s all 100% finished. And also, I just bought those dishes, they are perfect and exactly what I’ve been looking for. Your kitchen is gorgeous!! Enjoy your new house!
Thank you so much!! It’s true—I don’t know that I’ve seen too many kitchen photos without appliances, but I’m all about keeping it real. :) So happy you bought the dishes too–I love them!! xoxo
Love your new farmhouse and this kitchen is gorgeous! XOXO
Thank you SO much, Marie!!! xoxo
I love the flooring, but I think I missed something..what type of flooring do you have in the kitchen (and the rest of the house)?
Thanks! We have hardwood in the kitchen, dining room, entry, carpet in the bedrooms and family room, gray wood tile in the mudroom and bathrooms, and white vintage tile in the master bath.
Hi!
Do you have your tutorial for the DIY benches? I love them!
Thank you…and I do!! :) https://oldsaltfarm.com/2017/02/diy-kitchen-benches.html
Hi Kierste,
Your kitchen is truly amazing! So inviting! I was curious, who built your cabinets? We are in the process of renovating and have a very similar layout! Thanks so much for any information you can provide! :)
The cabinets are by KraftMaid! We love them! We got them from a cabinet company through our builder, but you could look up where to find them in your area. xo
Your kitchen is beautiful! What did you use for your back splash? Is it a peel and stick or individual tiles? Thank you.
Thank you so much! They’re individual tiles–white subway tiles.
