Patriotic Sprinkle Cookies

With the 4th of July right around the corner, I’ve been busy thinking of some really fun & easy food ideas to celebrate the big day!  There are always a lot of kids to feed, and I love serving cute treats that I can make ahead of time, and that are easy to eat.  Sprinkle Cookies are the perfect answer, and they’re always a huge hit!

They really could not be any easier, and seriously, they are so adorable! I like to use a sugar cookie mix to make these cookies, and I can whip up a batch in just a few minutes. I love the adorable patriotic sprinkles, and I put the cookies on popsicle sticks to make them even more festive & fun!

You can use any sugar cookie dough you like–whether it’s your favorite recipe, or a mix.  I almost always use a mix, and since I have a little girl that is gluten-free, I can easily use a GF mix for her too. You can also make these a couple of days ahead, which will save you time on the big day.

To make the sprinkle cookies, once your dough is prepared, make balls of dough that are about the size of golf ball, roll them in sprinkles, and place on a cookie sheet about 3-4 inches apart.  Place a popsicle stick in the center of each cookie—to the halfway point–then use a glass to flatten each one slightly.  Bake according to your cookie mix/recipe directions, then let them completely cool before removing from the pan.  That’s an important step–if you pick them up too soon, the popsicle stick will break right out of the cookies.  That’s it!  Easy and adorable!

You can make these for any season, holiday, or theme, but using different colored sprinkles. They would also make perfect bake sale cookies!

My nine year old twin girls LOVE to help me in the kitchen, and making cookies is right up their alley.  This particular recipe is extra fun for helpers, because of the sprinkles rolling and popsicle sticks!

All of that rolling and sprinkling also makes a mess, but thanks to Huggies® Wipes, cleanup is a breeze!

Huggies® Wipes are my go-to method for cleaning up hands and faces, and a staple at our house. Summertime always provides lots of opportunities to use them, and I keep them near the backyard for wiping up popsicle faces & hands, in the car for all of our on-the-go cleanup needs, and in the kitchen for those sticky, doughy, adorable hands. Wipes are most definitely not all created equal, and hands down, Huggies® are my favorite. They’re soft & gentle on skin, but thick and tough on messes.

Sugar cookie mix or your favorite sugar cookie recipe, prepared
Patriotic sprinkles
Popsicle sticks
Line a cookie sheet with wax paper, and spray with cooking spray.
Prepare the sugar cookie mix or your favorite sugar cookie dough according to the directions/recipe. Roll the dough into golf-ball sized balls, then roll them into the sprinkles.
Place on the cookie sheet about 3-4 inches apart, and I can usually fit about 6 to a sheet at a time.
Poke a popsicle stick into each ball of dough—about halfway through.
Use a glass to slightly flatten them.
Bake according to the recipe/mix directions.
Let cool completely before moving–this is an important step! If you don’t, the popsicle will break through the cookie.
ENJOY!
***You can do this for any holiday, season, or occasion by using different colored sprinkles!
