10 DIY Outdoor Planter Ideas

Here in Michigan, spring is on it’s way!  When I was out shopping this weekend, all the potted flowers were calling my name. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about which ones I want to plant this year, and what kind of planter I want to make to present them in. So…I went looking and found DIY outdoor planter ideas, ready to inspire!!!

You will just love the creativity–so many clever and darling ideas! Most of these are for planting flowers, but I found a couple really fun ideas for gardens that I added those too.

Washtub Planter

Here’s an idea using an old washtub!  I made it a several years ago, and it’s still one of my favorite things for my back porch. It’s also really versatile–I plant flowers in the spring, then pile it high with pumpkins in the fall.  LOVE.

Polka Dotted Tiered Planters

I love all things polka dot! These are so adorable, and brighten up this space.

Planter Box

This is an idea that can be both indoor and outdoor. I can also imagine this on a patio table, or on a front porch.

DIY Garden Planter & Bird Bath

I had to include this idea, because it was just so unique and creative! 

Mason Jar Planter Box

Mason jars are my favorite, and again, this idea can work outdoors as well.  

A Wooden Pallet Garden

Such a great way to use pallets!!  

Strainer Hanging Planter

If you don’t love the chrome, you can always spray paint it. I think a matte black would be so cute–or even a color if you like that.


2 Tier Planter

The tiers are such a cute idea!


Jute Webbing Planter

I love jute, and I don’t know that I would have thought of it for a planter, but it sure is cute. 

Mason Jar Wall Planter

This is showcased inside her home, but it could easily be an outdoor planter as well.  Attach to a gate, fence, or more!
