Cottage Christmas Home Tour

It’s our first Christmas at Cottage on Blackberry Hill, and I’m excited to welcome you in to my home! You’ll find simple cottage farmhouse decor, both new and my favorites over the years. Grab a cozy blanket, mug of hot chocolate, and come join me!

We just moved in a couple months ago, and I’ve been looking forward to the holidays all year. We cut down our Christmas trees right before Thanksgiving, which is our annual tradition we’ve been going for many years. It was our first in North Carolina, and living so close to the mountains definitely has its perks! With company coming for the weekend, we did all of the decorating in a couple of days. Phew! Now I’m basking in Christmas lights, smelling the best candles, and loving all the extra coziness that comes with the holiday. (All sources are at the bottom of the post.)

Kitchen

My favorite in the kitchen is just a bit of greenery. I think it makes all the difference. In future years I may add a little more–perhaps a few wreaths. But I love it just like this!

Dining Room

A few trees, my favorite grain stripe table runner, and wreaths on the chairs. Perfection! I added red ribbons this year, and I love it.

This antique hutch was a grand find at a local market. It keeps a lot of my linen and dishes, and adds so much to this space.

The dutch door leads out to the back patio, and I added a few trees and a cute plaid blanket on the couch. We love spending time out there, even in the winter — it doesn’t feel too cold to us after living in New York for so long!

Scullery

The counters are used a lot in this space, so I didn’t want to add very much to keep the counters open. A cute Santa cookie jar, small trees, and a fun rolling pin are tucked in the corner.

Library

If you’re looking for me, this is where you’ll find me. I love this library–curling up with a book, or watching a movie. (This frame tv has been on of my favorite purchases.) We play games or do puzzles around the tv, and the piano I had growing up is also in there. It’s the coziest space and it was made for Christmas! This is a tree by King of Christmas (the only faux tree we have this year–all the others are real), and the stockings were crocheted by a friend of ours with all of our names on them!

Hallways & Stairs

Simple green wreaths with ribbons are hung on the vintage doors in the small hallway going into the library, the doors in the main foyer, and also on my little pocket office door.

I added a bit of garland and ribbon to the back stairs as well!

Piano Room

I always knew we needed a tree in this room, and when we were walking around looking at trees to cut down, this one called our name! With simple snowflake ornaments (and a few candy canes the kids added) it’s lovely from the inside and the outside. Both this window and the library window face the front of the house, so you can see both trees when coming up the driveway.

Family Room

I found this fantastic frame on Facebook marketplace, and knew it would be just the right thing for the mantel. I bought the digital image, and got it printed. I love it so much!

Bathrooms

In the two main floor guest bathrooms, I added a wreath to one of the hooks next to the sinks tied with a red stripe ribbon. Simple touches can really make all the difference.

Rec Room

Upstairs we have a large open room that’s in between what we call the “girls’ wing” and the “boys’ wing”. It’s at the top of the main stairs, and it’s basically our movie room. Big comfy couch, mini bar area, and lots of cozy blankets. The kids really wanted a tree in this room, and it’s perfect for snuggling up to watch movies with the Christmas lights on! This tree has all of the family ornaments on it, from past years. Everything the kids created and made, homemade ornaments, and bits of Christmases past. It’s the most fun to decorate!

Front Porch & Exterior

I didn’t put any wreaths on the doors, or any decor on the porch next to them. The plan had been for wreaths at the minimum, but we were so short on time that I hadn’t figured out the best way to hang them on the glass. Then I couldn’t find any trees I loved enough to buy, or what I was looking for, so I just decided to wait! I did place a few trees and a darling plaid blanket on the porch swing, and I think it adds a little pop of Christmas.

Sources

Most of my decor I’ve had for a long time, so I don’t have any links for them. The few things I bought, like the door wreaths with cream ribbon, are no longer available. I’m linking to my favorite garland, and the velvet ribbon I put everywhere.

Norfolk Garland, 9 foot

Cedar Garland, 9 foot

Red velvet ribbon ( I have in several sizes)

Red velvet bows

Wreaths on the backs of dining chairs ( I removed their ribbon and added my own)

Brass Bell Garland

Santa Cookie Jar

Merry Christmas digital print

Faux Christmas Tree in Library (we have the 9 foot Royal Fir slim, you can read my Christmas tree review here!)
