Cottage Farmhouse Ceiling Fans
Farmhouse ceiling fans at Cottage on Blackberry Hill that provide functionality and aesthetics, and add a quiet charm while keeping the space comfortable and inviting.

Many of the decisions I made when we were building Cottage on Blackberry Hill came easy to me. I had a vision, and I knew what I was looking for, including lighting, sinks, and doors. But when it came to finding ceiling fans that fit my style, this is where I struggled. Admittedly, I’ve not ever really liked the way most fans look. Yes, they are very functional and serve a purpose, but living in a colder climate for so many years, it just wasn’t a priority. Moving to the south meant much warmer temps, and having them in our home, especially upstairs and in outside spaces, would make a difference.
I searched and searched. Many of the ones labeled farmhouse style were just a little too farmhouse to fit our home, and I didn’t want the fan to be the focal point of the room. I really wanted it to blend in, be a part of the space.
Finally I found what I was looking for, and knew they would be perfect!

Exterior Fans
We have four ceiling fans on our porch to help keep us cool in the warmer months, so we can still enjoy the being outside. Since it’s an all-white house, I decided on black fans for the contrast, and to go with the exterior lighting. I wanted something simple, and I didn’t need any lights on the fans. I decided on the classic black ceiling fan by Hunter. It’s an outdoor fan that fit all my criteria. I love the way they look on our porch, and our back patio–its the perfect cottage farmhouse style. This particular fan is versatile, and would work on a variety of different styles.

Interior Fans
The rooms in our home with ceiling fans are the boys’ bedrooms, rec room, and bonus room. I gave the girls the option, but they wanted regular lights instead. This is where I really struggled to find something I liked for these spaces, especially the bedrooms. My walls are are white, and the decor lends more cottage farmhouse. But when I saw these white ceiling fans with lights, my search was over.
The white just blends in to the space, which is exactly what I was looking for. It’s also very versatile–it looks so cute in my boys’ rooms, but also would have worked just as well in my girls’ rooms. The actual style lends more modern, and if it was any other finish, it wouldn’t work in my home, but the white is the trick! This fan has lights, since it would be the main lighting in these rooms. It’s also reversible—the other side of the blades is wood–so you can choose which one you like best.

I also have these fans in our bonus room over the garage, which I don’t have pics of, but they work really well in there too.
I’m so happy with how they look in our home, and they’ve definitely been put to good use in these warmer months!
