Cinnamon Roll Pancake Sauce

All you need to make this decadent Cinnamon Roll Pancake Sauce are a few pantry ingredients and a microwave! In minutes you can make a sauce that will transform your pancakes into a cinnamon roll taste-alike. It’s so good that it’s perfect over ice cream or as a dip for sliced apples.

We all love breakfast at our house, and in addition to sour cream muffins, granola balls, and pumpkin bread (it’s fall!), pancakes are often at the top of the list. What’s not to love? We trade up the toppings, and once of the favorites is Cinnamon Roll Pancake Sauce. The combination of brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg, transform regular pancakes into a delightful treat.

You know what makes it even better? It’s not a complicated recipe that takes forever to make…we’re talking less than 5 minutes, and in the microwave!  Plus, it uses ingredients that are most likely already in your pantry, so you can probably throw it together anytime you like. Having guests and want something a little extra special? Make this sauce, and they will love you more than they already do. It’s perfect for any special occasion, or any day at all!

Equipment

All you need is a microwave-safe glass bowl or measuring cup, and a microwave. This set of glass measuring cups is my go-to!

Ingredients

  • Brown sugar
  • Half and half
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Ground cloves
  • Flour

How to make

Melt the butter in a glass bowl or other microwave safe bowl. Add the brown sugar, 2 T. half and half, cinnamon, salt, and ground cloves. Microwave for about 30 seconds, then add the 1 T half and half and 1 T. flour. Microwave just until bubbly, then remove and whisk briskly until well blended. Serve over pancakes, waffles, French toast, or even with sliced applies!

I use this pancake recipe, or our favorite gluten-free pancake mix.

NOTES: I like to double it, and keep any leftovers (and that doesn’t always happen) in the fridge in a mason jar. It will keep for a few days, and it’s also yummy with sliced apples or over ice cream.

FAQ

How much does the recipe make?

It’s a smaller recipe, resulting in about 1 cup of sauce. It’s easy to double or triple, depending on how many you’re serving.

Can I use regular milk instead of half and half?

I don’t recommend that you use regular milk–it won’t result in as thick or creamy of a sauce. Half and half works best in this recipe.

Can leftovers be refrigerated?

Yes, they can. Pour leftover sauce into a mason jar or other airtight container. It will last 2-3 days in the refrigerator.

Yowzers! Oh the wonderful things I could do with that sauce!!! I think I'll make it for my mom and dad tomorrow when they come for breakfast. I love easy to whip up, yet oh so tasty sauces that jazz up 'regular' food.

I agree with Michelle that this sauce would taste awesome over vanilla ice cream!!

Thanks for the recipe. I made it this morning for our mothers day / husbands birthday breakfast. We used it on french toast and homemade chunky applesause. So yummy! Even made it gluten free with a little cornstarch instead of flour and dairy free with soymilk and it was a hit with all. It is sure to be a family favorite!

  20. first of all my apologies if I am being thick but can you please tell me what “half and half” is in this recipe. i would love to try this cause both my husband and myself love cinnamon. thanks in advance.

    1. Oh, sure!! I’m sorry, I noticed that you have an email address in the UK, and half-and-half must be an American thing. It’s actually half cream and half milk, so it has a higher fat content. You could absolutely use heavy cream instead, and it would be even richer and creamier! You could also use whole milk, but it wouldn’t be quite as creamy. Either way, it’s going to be yummy!!!

      1. Thanks for the info definitely going to make this asap.

          1. will do got some free time coming up next week so will be making a few pots of it then ( and hiding it somewhere it just sounds so scrummy )xx
