Yesterday I promised that I would post about the Silhouette project I was working on, and I’m excited to share it. You all know that I’m about simple details that can totally change the look of a project. Well, today is a perfect example of that! I purchased some plain white burp cloths, and wanted to “fancy them up” a little. Using my Silhouette and sewing machine, and about an hour of time, I ended up with adorable ruffled burp rags!
When I say easy, I mean EASY! Sewing is not my forte (although it is my goal to get better!), but these require only one straight stitch down the middle of the ruffle. Not only do I love the look of this particular ruffle style, but it’s certainly one of the easiest. I can never resist personalization, so I also added a name on a few, and monograms on others. LOVE!
{supplies}
-plain white burp rags (I bought mine at Target)
-cotton material for ruffle
-Silhouette heat transfer
OR
-coordinating fabric and Silhouette fabric interfacing or Heat ‘n Bond
-iron
-sewing machine and coordinating thread
{directions}
1. Create your text in your Silhouette software. Cut out either on heat transfer material (this is what I used), or use fabric and heat ‘n bond. Either one will work!
2. Following the directions on either the heat transfer or heat ‘n bond, iron the text on your burp rags.
3. Cut your fabric into about 1.5 inch strips. If you make one small cut at the top of your fabric, you can actually rip it into strips, which saves a ton of time, and I love the frayed edges it produces.
4. I used THIS method for ruffles, but without the elastic of course. Literally, you just fold and tuck the material-forward or back–as you sew–no pinning necessary. It doesn’t have to be perfect, or the folds evenly spaced–that’s where the charm comes in!
That’s it! Seriously so easy and adorable!
While I was cutting out the heat transfer, I decided to add a little something to a plain white onesie. Isn’t it incredible what the difference this one change makes??
And I couldn’t resist showing you the shoes. :) I’m a shoe girl, and when you make them in a tiny form, I can’t resist!!!
