DIY Burlap Flag Banner
I absolutely adore this banner. Not only is it the cutest, but it’s incredibly easy to make, and doesn’t take long at all! You’ll find yourself pulling it out for every patriotic holiday, but don’t be surprised if you want to leave it up from May to August!
It’s super easy to do, and you can get it done in less than two hours–and that’s mostly drying time! It would be so cute in a doorway, window, on a mantel or backyard fence, or as decoration behind your holiday table.
Here’s how you can make one of your own…
SUPPLIES:
♥ burlap
♥ painters tape or strips of vinyl for stripes
♥ vinyl stars, or even stickers
♥ navy and red spray paint
♥ jute (twine)
♥ hot glue gun
DIRECTIONS:
I used the darker idaho potato colored burlap, and I {love} it. The paint colors are Rustoleum’s Navy Blue (Gloss) and Colonial Red (Satin). I really recommend that you use spray paint, as opposed to craft paint. Craft paint will soak through the burlap, saturating it much more than the lightness of spray paint. It also has more of a tendency to bleed under the tape, and you won’t get those crisp lines. The burlap is so rough, that it’s hard to get a tight enough seal to use craft paint.
And you’ve got the cutest patriotic decor ever.
UPDATED POST: Originally posted in June, 2012, way back when I was Brown Paper Packages! I still use this banner, and love it…and after 8 years, still looks as good as new.
